Movember is for a Good Cause

Ditka? Magnum? Ron Burgundy? Alex Trebek? Burt Reynolds?  Iconic, classic, never forgotten mustaches!  You have seen all the pictures and articles I have posted, you have commented on the silly lip-sweater on my face, and now I share the story J.

My mustache is intended to raise awareness and money for prostate cancer and testicular cancer initiatives.  The growing of a mustache is an international annual event held in November – Movember – for thirty days to encourage men and friends to “change the face of men’s health”.  Please join me in my support by making a gift.

I used to subscribe to the saying, that if men live long enough they will eventually get prostate cancer. My limited data set supported that: at age 94 my grandfather’s demise was prostate cancer.  Recently, a close friend of mine, in his early 40s, was diagnosed with prostate cancer.  With this information I realized prostate cancer is not just an ‘old persons’ disease.

The Movember event goal is to educate and encourage men to have their PSA levels tested annually.  It is a global movement, having raised more than $126 million last year from nearly one million participants around the world. Movember works to change established habits and attitudes men have about their health, to educate men about the health risks they face, and to promote the need for early detection, diagnosis and treatment.

My personal goal for these past thirty days is for my mustache, through humorous comments and posts, to have raised awareness of prostate cancer.  This Friday, November 30,I will shave my face.  Yes, all of it!  Please consider helping “change the face of men’s health” by supporting me in my Movember efforts.  Your gift, regardless of amount, will make a difference. Just click here.Thank you,

— Knox

PS. Is there an emoticon for a mustache smile? If so, please let me know what it is! And, please forward this email to your friends and family who will consider making a make a gift to this initiative. MOVEMBER DONATION LINK
